It seems to be that Network Rail are worse than the unions for messing
up passengers journeys.

I accept fewer passengers use the trains at the weekends but more long
distance journeys are undertaken.

They might not be closing the WCML for the Spring Bank Holidays but they
are the following weekend which is end of the children's half term.

Really? I thought Saturday was now the busiest day of the week in some
areas, with Monday the quietest.

So, trains might be fuller on Saturdays.
Imagine numer of passengers divided by
two and length of trip multiplied by three.

But there are more leisure trips, passengers
might choose other destinatations or other
weekends, if not travelling for aunt's birthday
party.

I know someone who used to do ticket line at Waverley and he said
Saturday is now the busiest day.

Actually busier at the weekends for the last two years, though weekday
usage has been increasing.

Its the section from Carlisle to Carstairs, which is the quietest
section of the WCML. And it is complete before the busy period in the
Summer. Of the 14 days it is closed, only 4 are Saturdays.
