The emtrains.co.uk domain name was registered yesterday to Stagecoach.
They have had eastmidlandstrains.co.uk since December.

No need to guess the operating name of the new East Midlands franchise
then!

'East Midlands Trains' is just aweful, just as I detest the name 'Hull
Trains'. What about 'Stagecoach Midland'? I like 'Midland Mainline' as it
is synonymous with the Midland Main Line on which it runs, but of course the
new franchise will also combine various Central routes too. Stagecoach will
have to spend a small fortune on rebranding - not least the stations, trains
and staff uniforms.

Rebranding isn't all the expense it is often made out to be. Staff
uniforms have to be renewed anyway so that's just a matter of choosing
a livery, likewise with printed materials. Savings could be made by
waiting until the full life of the items have expired, not that long
for these items. I suspect much of it is tax deductible anyway.

Station signs and trains are most obvious changes though. Wrapping
trains in vinyl liveries isn't all that expensive and provides
protection for the train body against the elements. Renewing station
signage can be considered environmental improvement, given the dire
state of most stations any sort of improvement will be welcome and if
the motivation is corporate identity rather than a genuine desire to
improve the image of the railway, then so be it. In most cases
nothing more than a cheap (but effective) vinyl transfer is needed. I
say effective, only if there is consistency throughout the operating
area, something many tocs have failed on, throughout England at least
there are still examples of BR train and station livery in an
extremely tatty state (and I don't mean the BR symbol alone)

Vinyls are *not* good protection for vehicle bodies, as the edges between
the vinyl sheets provides a channel for water to get between vinyl and
bodyshell, which is not good for preventing rust. Paint is much better as a
protector.

What a lot of people discussing this here and in earlier threads have failed
to notice is that the word 'Stagecoach' isn't really used on SWT on a day to
day basis, yes its the company name in the small print on posters etc, but
it isn't part of the brand name & livery as such. So I don't think you'll
see 'Stagecoach' as often as you expect in the EM either...

Exactly. The name Stagecoach has not been visible on SWT stock since the
short-lived 'A Stagecoach Group Company' vinyls were removed from the 455s
around the turn of the century.

The Livery is Stagecoach - but with the colours swapped. - Both Bus and
Rail liverys are from 'Best Impressions'. Needless to say out of the big
bus group liveries* Stagecoach is probably the best.

Surely it's going to be Emtrains - or are they really going to use East
Midland Strains?

Perhaps they should call it "Stagecoach Midland Red" and paint
everything a plain maroon-ish red? MidlanD on the sides of the
carriages with the lower case letters underlined? Leopard spots for
depot allocations?

One hesitates to suggest a new fleet of double-deck trains with
coaches coded BEDD (Both ends double-deck) and motor coaches labelled
SOS (Stagecoach Own Specification).

But I digress.
