Post by John F KapplerAny idea if there a list of BR Colours with BS numbers anywhere?
If it is actually a BS colour (e.g. Rail Blue, Middle Brunswick Green)
then IMU there should be a match by name but presumably if BR defined
any colours with enough tolerance there might not be a name match even
if the original spec was based on a BS colour (but fails the
definition due to the allowed variation). If there are such cases then
you'll probably need to dig out early equivalents to the current
Railway Group Standards. AIUI the current usage for BS 381 C is mainly
for powder/epoxy coatings but these were presumably not around when
e.g. [BR/LMS?] 541 Maroon was defined with possibly other now-defunct
standards lurking in the BSI's basement.
Further charts found include:

The references in:
http://www.mondoridotto.it/eng/cat15s.htm
do seem to suggest an earlier edition of BS 381 C with numbers below
100.
http://miniatures.de/html/ger/colour-british-standard.html
does likewise and actually refers to BS 381 of 1930 and 1939; also
mentioning BS 987C which would appear to be camouflage colours.
