I've been trying to identify which RAL Colour Code would be nearest to GWR
Green (so that I can specifiy it for a new front door).

Any suggestions?

Probably best palce to enquire is Didcot GWS - I believe Akzo-Nobel,
now owners of Masons, have a place in Didcot so there could well be
links.

If anyone can get the GWR green right it's the Great Western Society

And of course, while GWR green can be described as a shade of
Brunswick Green, not all Brunswick Greens are GWR green!

Swindon vs. Wolverhampton, for a start.

Many thanks for the suggestions! I'm not looking for a precise colour
match. The colour of old paints using copper pigments would have changed
over time anyway. My rough guess would be RAL-6005, Moss Green. If there
is a closer match I would be happy to be told about it.

Thanks again

Also differences between the Gooch and Dean eras. Under Gooch and Joseph
Armstrong Swindon Green was described as Holly Green, Dean's green was
somewhat lighter. George Armstrong at Wolvehampton used a different shade to
both.

Some years ago I tried to get a British Standard colour designation
for GWR Brunswick Green and was told by the GWS (of which I was then a
member) that it did not equate to any BS shade.

The large variation in colours applied to preserved ex-GWR locomotives
appeared to confirm this. One of the 78xx Manors was outshopped in
what can only be described as a beautiful LNER Apple Green. ;-)

Perhaps, as you say, GWS now has their own standard shade. There is
certainly a very good degree of consistency between the ex-GWR
locomotives at Didcot.

Judging by the replies, paint it the shade that you think looks right,
say it is right, and then point out that BS/RAL/everyone else is
wrong. That's the GWR way!

Have you tried Phoenix Precision Paints? http://www.phoenix-paints.co.uk/

Sorry to piggyback on this post, i've been trying to find a match for the
BR(E) blue used in an enamel sign which I want to touch in damaged areas -
any suggestions, I even took the sign to B&Q for use in their colour
matching machine and it was miles out.

Have you tried asking Trackside (http://www.tracksideltd.co.uk/) although
they might prefer to restore it for you than give away their secrets :-)
