In response to the very poorly publicised London - Calais + P&O ferry
ticket offered by Southeastern, I have tonight finally been able to
find a ticket office clerk who is aware of it and can sell it.
On my previous trip across the Channel I did enquire about the day
tripper ticket to Stratford International ticket office but with me
having little knowledge of the ticket, the very helpful but
unsuccessful clerk having no success in finding the ticket and me
being on a tight timetable I just bought separate UK rail + P&O ferry
tickets.
Tonight I went back to Stratford International ticket office after
seeing the Stratford City Christmas lights, armed with a copy of The
Man In Seat 61 webpage and with the aid of (again) very friendly and
helpful staff, it was discovered it after about 10 minutes of
searching.
The clerk on duty this evening mentioned that an e-mail was recently
sent regarding the Daytripper ticket and therefore they was aware of
the offer, it was found by entering Charing Cross as the origin
station - which made us assume it wasn't valid via HS1 and only on
classic services - but after clicking on the specified ticket it the
origin station reverted to London Terminals and is indeed valid from
St Pancras and HS1 with a £5 high-speed supplement for each direction.
The Daytripper ticket is an Anytime Day Return with no peak hour
restrictions on Southeastern services and does not require a ferry
reservation, it is only valid on high-speed services to/from St
Pancras with a £5 supplement for each outward and return journey, when
the ticket office sells it they will also print a “control ticket”
from the fares manual that will enable you to board the ferry at the
Port of Dover. Note however that the ticket is not valid on the
shuttle bus between Dover Priory and the Port of Dover and is required
to be purchased separately (£2) on the bus, alternatively you can
walk - like I do.
