Does anything ever use platform 1 at Huntingdon?

I thought it might be used for northbound trains that terminate early at
Huntingdon because of late running but they always seem to change direction
to the north of the station dropping of and picking up passengers as normal
on platforms 3 and 2.

Platform 1 used to be used extensively until the introduction of the Winter
Timetable of 1997 which is the date that Huntingdon( and stations south of
Huntingdon) got a 2 trains an hour service between Peterborough and Kings
Cross.

Up until then it was one train an hour between Peterborough and Kings Cross
and a separate service between Huntingdon and Kings Cross.

There are no "Booked" moves to use the bay now. Indeed there are no
"booked" terminators / starters either. When a Northbound train is
turned round at Huntingdon due to late running, they have to shunt via
the North end and as there is invariably nothing else about (as
invariably the train being turned round is the only one booked there
at that time) the trains start from the up slow. There would be little
point in doing an additional shunt into the bay. The last time I saw
it used was for a brake defect on a 317 which was terminated there and
had to wait fitters attention. That was about 6 minthst ago IIRC

AIUI there is at least one booked working, SO 10.01 departure. This is
booked to come ECS from P'boro behind shunt signal P33 on the up
slow, to access platform 1 arr 09.20.

Quite a popular working for drivers as the layover allows enough time
for the excellent full English breakfast in the buffet.

Cheers

Does not operate until 3 April because of the weekend blockades at Welwyn.

And is the tea as strong as it used to be ? When I used to do the 89
on the up Parly it was like treacle, but diet coke was not around then
so I had no choice !

PS, back to the original point. Will try to find out if the "SO"
working is coming back in March.

I can't remember the exact price but somewhere in the region of 3 to 4
pounds.

The buffet is an independent operation much in the same way as an old
style transport cafe. It is not run by WAGN.

cheers
