The fate of this loco came to mind after catching up with the rescue
of certain items from the defunct Brighton Works project within the
old Pullman shops at Brighton (prior to the buildings demolition),
were did D3000 [aka 13000] go and when (this is not the same loco that
was pulled out of the derelict building recently)?

Thanks for that. Nice to see it at least externally preserved.

Another less famous 08 was rescued from Brighton around the same time
and is being restored to service at Hayes Knoll, D3261. There are many
internal variations across the 08 and 09 builds and the early examples
are very challenging to restore.

Tell me about it, the Brighton Works project nearly had three of them,
all from the same source The story goes that the group (buying them)
knew that they were bidding/buying D3000 & D3261 two but were then
contacted by the NCB asking when we intended removing a third! Can't
remember now how it was all sorted out, we or the NCB might well have
given it to a local scrap dealer.

Good god, and we though we would have our work cut out should we ever
have returned D3000 to service, IIRC D3261 had been involved in a
shunting accident, hence the cut away steps etc.

Even more interesting were the pre BR '08s', the Brighton project
originally had (until certain people fell out with the majority share
holder...) the sole surviving (ex SR) BR class 12. complete with BFB
wheels and many other non 08 features.

It appears that Brighton did acquire it, as D3255 is photographed in
the Pullman Shed on this page.

However, the site suggests it is probably still there!

Presumably this one?

D3000 is currently situated at Corus, Scunthorpe (AFRPS Shed). D3255 which
was extracted recently from the Brighton Pullman Shops is currently at the
Colne Valley Railway.
