This was suggested to me by youtube:



Interesting part for me is at 26:40 which shows a pair of back to back HSTs
being used as a general haulage loco. Also the difference in loading gauge
between the tyne and wear metro stock and mainline trains is interesting.
I didn't realise they were quite low.

I didn't realise they were quite low.
ISTR that when the Metro was first mooted future extensions using some
street running was considered a possibility ,though it has never happened
they may have a loading gauge dictated by what height the overhead would
have been on such sections or the need to go under some railway bridges.
Just conjecture on my part but would be interesting to know.
