Does NR expenditure of £151,000 for 9 months operating stop go
traffic lights sound a little extravagant to you guys? Or is it just
par for the course?

well if we had had the good fortune to invent the temporary traffic light
we would be wealthy indeed, and yes it is very extravagent, but they are a
real ripoff, and you see them everywhere, what a money spinner.

It appears from the yellow sign in the photograph that the lights are being manned 13 hours a day. There is also a comment below the article quoting a figure of £1200 per week for the equipment hire, which if both of these assumptions are correct, makes the labour rate for 270 days around £30 an hour. This will be the overhead rate paid to the operating company, of course, and not the sum that the operator is paid. It would seem to me that the overall costs are not excessive, as the hourly rate is probably less than most people pay for car servicing, for example.

Nice little earner for Centurion! Presumably it has to be manned for 24
hours a day so that's a minimum of 6 staff plus reliefs.

Though presumably it was won on a competitive basis against a raft of other
companies offering the same service, with the winning bid likely to be a
fraction of some of the losing ones

Presumably, there's quite a few companies these days offering this
service, rather to my surprise.
